Welcome! Let’s Make Some Delicious Shawarma
Hey everyone, welcome back! Today, we’re making Chicken Shawarma at home. Trust me, once you try this, you’ll never buy it from outside again. Homemade is always better!
Ingredients You’ll Need
- 300 grams of chicken breast
- Half a cup of yogurt
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon crushed red chili
- 1 teaspoon tandoori masala
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon vinegar
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
Step 1: Preparing the Chicken
First, take 300 grams of chicken breast. Cut it into thin fillets. In a bowl, add half a cup of yogurt, 1 teaspoon red chili powder, 1 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1/2 teaspoon crushed red chili, 1 teaspoon tandoori masala, 1/2 teaspoon black pepper, 1 tablespoon vinegar, and 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder. Mix it all together.
Tip: The yogurt doesn’t need to be thick or thin. It’ll cook fine either way.
After mixing, let the chicken rest for 30 minutes. If you’re in a rush, you can cook it right away, but resting makes it taste better.
Step 2: Making the Sauces
Red Chili Sauce
While the chicken rests, let’s make the sauces. For the red chili sauce, take 1 tablespoon of crushed red chili and add 2 tablespoons of vinegar. Add one garlic clove and let it sit for 15 minutes. After that, grind it into a smooth paste.
White Sauce
Next, for the white sauce, take a blender. Add half a cup of yogurt, half a cup of mayonnaise, 1 teaspoon lemon juice, 2 garlic cloves, 1 tablespoon white sesame seeds, 1 tablespoon cooking oil (don’t use mustard oil), a pinch of black pepper, and a pinch of salt. Blend everything together. Your white sauce is done!
Step 3: Cooking the Chicken
Now, let’s cook the chicken. Heat a tawa (pan) and add 1 to 2 tablespoons of oil. Put the chicken fillets on the pan. Cook for 2 minutes on each side. After that, take the leftover yogurt mix and add a little water to thin it out. Pour this over the chicken and cover it. Cook on low heat for 10 to 12 minutes.
Tip: After 12 minutes, check the chicken. If it’s cooked well and there’s some yogurt water left, flip the chicken. Cook for another 2 minutes. This will help the chicken soak up the flavors.

Step 4: Making the Salad
While the chicken cooks, let’s make the salad. Slice an onion, julienne a carrot, slice a tomato, chop some cabbage, and peel a cucumber. Put all the veggies in a bowl. Add a pinch of black pepper and salt. Your salad is ready!
Step 5: Assembling the Shawarma
Now, let’s assemble the shawarma. Heat a shawarma bread in a pan with a little oil. Spread the red chili sauce on it. Add the white sauce. Then add the cooked chicken. Top it with salad, and more sauce if you want. Wrap it up like a real shawarma.
